THE woman who died when she was run over by her own car was the mother of TV actor Michael Fenton Stevens.

Olive Stevens, 88, became stuck on a country lane that was blocked by fly-tipping on Thursday morning (November 6).

A driver from another vehicle tried to help her reverse he car but collided with her and she died in hospital.

A 55-year-old man from Croydon was arrested at the scene on Skeet Hill Lane, Orpington, on suspicion of causing serious injury through dangerous driving and has been bailed until mid February 2015.

Mr Stevens, who sang the 1986 hit 'The Chicken Song' and starred in Spitting Image and the Bill, told the Daily Mail he was angry with the fly-tippers who blocked the road.

"It was a terrible tragedy but we don't hold any ill-feelings or malice towards the driver," said Mr Stevens.

"The only thing about this I do feel resentment for is whoever thought it was ok to just throw rubbish on a road.

"They think that it's only a cost to the council to clean up, but this shows there are human consequences to any accident."

A police spokesman said it is believed the victim was unable to continue her journey through Skeet Hill Lane because a lorry removing fly-tipped rubbish blocked the road.

He said: "A passenger from a second vehicle offered to assist the victim in reversing her Micra down the lane. The victim was not inside the vehicle when it was moved. While reversing, the Micra collided with the victim, causing serious injuries."

She was taken to a south London hospital where she later died.

Mr Stevens told the Daily Mail a man got into the car and as his mother opened the passenger door something happened and the car went backwards.

He said: "My mother was thrown to the ground with some force and suffered broken ribs and quite severe grazing.

"The blow to the back of her head caused a bleed in her brain which killed her."

Mr Stevens added: "She was a remarkable woman, she was still so sprightly and active and extraordinarily caring to all she met."

Mr Stevens tweeted the above picture of his mother, saying: "My happy young mum and a bewildered little me. Will miss you always x."
