A MAN who hit his wife in the face as they rowed about a holiday has been ordered to go on a domestic violence intervention course.

Jigar Patel, 30, "lashed out" at Simar Patel outside their home in Broughton Road, Thornton Heath, on July 9.

He hit her nose with such force her glasses were thrown into a neighbour's garden.

Patel, who pleaded guilty to assault by beating last month, was handed a community order at Croydon Magistrates' Court on Wednesday (October 15).

He was told to complete a 12-day domestic violence programme and will be supervised for six months.

Magistrates said he must also complete 50 hours unpaid work and pay £50 compensation to his wife, a £60 victim surcharge and £85 in costs.

The court had previously heard the couple's relationship had broken down over a number of years as Patel tried to control everything she did.

They arranged to go on holiday together to see if they could repair their marriage but, on the evening they were due to leave, Patel said he did not want to go.

When his wife said she would go alone they rowed and he ended up hitting her in the face.

Patel, of previous good character, admitted grabbing his wife's arm but claimed he threw the glasses rather than striking her.
