Crystal Palace Ladies 2 - 0 Ipswich Town Ladies

Palace Ladies cruised into the third round of the FA Cup thanks to second half strikes from Roschelle Shakes and Abi Igbavboa.

Shakes opened the scoring in the 57th-minute, turning and firing the ball in at the near post after Jade Davenport's strong left wing run, following good build up play by Charlotte Cavanagh.

The 'Lady Eagles' doubled their lead as substitute Igbayboa put the tie to bed in the 74th-minute.

Receiving the ball from Grace Beegan down the left, she cut inside two defenders, before curling a lovely shot beyond the Town goalkeeper and into the net.

Palace had struggled to make the opening in the first half against a hard-working Ipswich side, missing a number of chances to put themselves in front.

Although Town rarely posed a threat to Sam Saint's goal, Palace's opponents showed signs they could perhaps break the deadlock from a set-piece situation, in what began as a tight-nervy affair.

Following a few stern words from manager Dean Davenport at half-time, Palace were much more positive going forward in the second period.

Shakes and Mary Onianwa both tested the Ipswich goalkeeper, after good work by Davenport and Alma Donohoe down the flanks, before the Lady Eagles eventually grabbed their two decisive goals.

They could have added a couple, with both Shakes and substitute Nicha Dyett squandering good scoring opportunities, but Palace saw out the game to progress to the next round.

Davenport said: "It wasn't the girls' best performance of the season, but the result was all that mattered. I'm over the moon to have our name in the hat."

Palace Ladies will now face Women's Super League Two side Reading in the third round. The tie will be played at Bromley's Fortress Stadium on February 1.
