Crystal Palace boss Neil Warnock says Selhurst Park is a 'special' football ground

NEIL Warnock has spoken of his affection for the Palace fans and Selhurst Park.

In an interview with the Daily Telegraph ahead of this weekend's clash with Chelsea, Warnock told how the atmosphere generated by the Eagles fans in SE25 is far better than anything created in one of the breed of newer football grounds.

Warnock said: "Palace fans love the name, love the club and they love the ground. It's still the worst place in the world to get to! If I was an away team manager, you don't know when to leave your hotel; it could take half an hour or two hours. The dressing-rooms have hardly changed. It brings people down to earth. It's special.

"It's intimidating. It's an old-fashioned ground. There are fantastic new stadiums like the Emirates but you can't tell me that the atmosphere at the Emirates is better than Highbury. You can't tell me Derby's (iPro Stadium) is better than the Baseball Ground or Man City's (Etihad) better than Maine Road.

"Yes, it's safety and lovely accommodation, it's better for women and kids, but we've still got the atmosphere."
