TWO brothels have been found operating in Broad Green and Norbury by police in the last three weeks.
A number of complaints from residents in and around Chatfield Road, Broad Green, led to the discovery of an address in the road being used as a brothel.
Evidence uncovered during the investigation suggested there was a similar operation running in Green Lane, Norbury.
The Chatfield Road raid, on July 23, was carried out by officers from Croydon Metropolitan Police Service's Anti-social Behaviour (ASB) Team as well as immigration officers and found a number of rooms set up for sexual activity.
Three women admitted their involvement in the brothel although they were not arrested but warned they would be if they continued to commit sexual offences at the property.
The three women, all Romanian nationals, have been served papers to leave the UK within 30 days.
Officers attended the Green Lane brothel on August 8 and found 18 people at the address. Nine women and six men – all Romanian nationals – were also served with papers to leave the UK within 30 days and given the same warning about continued sexual offences at the property.
Both premises are believed to be privately owned and police are trying to find and contact their owners.
The Chatfield Road address has now been vacated and checks are ongoing to ensure the Green Lane brothel is not still running.
PC Chris Duffee, of the Croydon MPS' ASB team, said: "We would encourage any residents who suspect criminal activity of any type going on in their neighbourhood to get in touch with us, or to contact Crimestoppers anonymously, as we can, and will take action to put a stop to it."
