THERE have been some superstars for Palace over the last couple of decades - and some pretty awful ones too. We asked Palace fan Dan Gibbs to take a look back and highlight who he believes lit up Selhurst Park on a regular basis and also those who had you holding your head in your hands.THE BESTJulian Speroni The man needs no introduction. The only player to win the Palace Player of the Year Award four times shows just how much he is adored by the Palace faithful. After a shaky start to his Palace career, playing the undercard to Gabor Kiraly, the Argentine hasn't looked back since. He's already got a restaurant named after him, what's next? We've paid £500,000 for ten years of excellent service - just let that sink in.Andy Johnson "Andy Johnson's magic, he wears a magic hat and when he saw the match ball he said 'I'm having that.' He scores them with his left foot, he scores them with his right, and when he plays against Brighton, he scores all *expletive* night." A hat-trick against Brighton in a memorable 5-0 victory against our rivals cemented the Bald Eagle's place within Palace hearts and that was before scoring 32 goals in one season!Clinton Morrison He was a Palace hero for many of us growing up. Clinton Morrison first caught my attention when he was one of only a few players to wear red boots in a day when black boots was the norm. The Irish international made more than 250 appearances, scoring over 100 goals in two spells at the club. Morrison will always be welcome at Selhurst Park.Attilio Lombardo An Italian midfielder signing for Palace sent shockwaves through SE25. Another 'Bald Eagle' graced his silky skills upon the Selhurst green and was a joy to watch. Despite only managing 49 appearances for Palace he was voted into the club's Centenary XI back in 2005.Ashley Cole Many non-Palace fans aren't aware the ex-Arsenal and Chelsea player once had a loan spell at the Eagles. He only made 14 appearances for the club, scoring one goal but the fact that he's regarded as one of the best left-backs in the world means he has to be regarded as one of Palace's best ever loan-signings.THE WORSTAde Akinbiyi A player that has travelled more miles in his car signing for different clubs than he ever did on a football pitch. A Nigerian international (you wouldn't have guessed it) and Leicester's record signing of £5m up until their recent purchase of Leo Ulloa, Palace must have thought they were getting a bargain for his abilities at £2.2m back in 2002. How wrong we all were. The striker scored three goals in 24 appearances before being loaned out to Stoke City. And who could forget his decision to have the number 55 shirt as the number ten shirt was already taken. In fact, adding the two number on the back of his shirt was the closest he ever got to becoming a number ten player.Calvin Andrew Slightly harsh on the forward I believe as every time he put on the Palace shirt he gave it his best shot, sadly his best shot ended up usually in the top tier of the Holmesdale Road stand. I don't recall many Palace fans being supporters of his playing time with us and I don't recall any shedding a tear when he departed in May 2012. The only satisfaction Palace fans got from his time is that he was loaned out to Brighton & Hove Albion and Millwall to inflict misery upon their fans also.Florian Marange A player for Bordeuax wanting to join Palace (who were in need of a new left-back) received a lot of attention from the Eagles fans. Sadly, this was to be the only attention he got. Marange didn't come close to living up to the hype surrounding his arrival, making only one appearance in a 2-1 League Cup defeat to Bristol City last August. A few appearances in the reserves followed before being sent packing by Ian Holloway. Ivan Kaviedes Described on Wikipedia as a striker with "wonderful touch, great vision, passing range and a keen eye for goal," Palace fans will have seen none of that. The Ecuadorian played just four games for Crystal Palace in 2004 after signing from Barcelona. Barcelona SC that is, who play in the Ecuadorian Serie A. Maybe Iain Dowie got his Barcelona's mixed up? Although hotly tipped as a youngster and an impressive scoring record in his native country, Kaviedes was nowhere near ready for the Premier League. It gets even worse when there are rumours that we even paid for his services.Sandor Torghelle The Hungarian was another panic buy for Iain Dowie when we reached the Premier League in 2004. Torghelle ended up getting more yellow cards than he did goals in his short spell at Palace. He was nowhere near ready for the Premier League and never looked like challenging Thierry Henry's 24 goals for the Golden Boot Award that season. He's now playing back in Hungary with top division side MTK Budapest FC, where he is in the form of his life – six goals in four games! Get a scout out to Budapest now. Just not Agent Dowie.
