FOR most people, a night on the tiles involves a few beers, a bit of dancing and, quite possibly, a greasy kebab. But for Lisa Dennis, this term takes on an entirely different meaning. In recent times, Lisa has made obliterating roof tiles something of a speciality – breaking (or should that be smashing) a world record in March, by chopping through 1,000 tiles in 83 seconds. Now, the Taekwondo champion, of Dalmally Road, Addiscombe, has broken another record, this time smashing an incredible 923 roof tiles in a minute. Lisa, 40, set her first world best in a Kent leisure centre – passing out in the process – but this time she made history in the more unlikely setting of an Italian TV studio. Her successful record attempt was last week filmed in Milan for the programme Lo Show Dei Record, which will be transmitted in the autumn. She was invited on to the show by Guinness World Records, and says she found it a nervy but also exciting experience. Lisa said: "Being invited on to the show to attempt a second world record was a real honour but extremely nerve-racking. "I am so proud to have completely smashed another record. It makes the hours of tough training more than worth it." Having failed with a previous record attempt in early 2013, Lisa admits she was "devastated" but would not "give up on her dream". Lisa, who teaches Taekwondo to children, added: "I hope I have inspired my students and shown them that it's important to never give up on a dream." Breaking records – and tiles – runs in Lisa's household. Her fiance, Chris Pitman, set the world best for a man in 2013 when he smashed through 1,000 tiles in just 51 seconds, after which promptly proposed to his girlfriend. The pair met at Butlins where she was on a hen night and he at a stag do. Lisa won the European Taekwondo championships seven times, before becoming world champion in 2011. She has now retired from competition and devotes her time running a Taekwondo school along with her partner.
