THE church of St James Riddlesdown has given up its hall to house Kenley nursery children who are without a school because of the floods.

Harris Primary Academy Kenley closed a month ago when the flooding started, and has sent its pupils to schools in Purley and Selhurst.

However, its nursery children had been struggling with no temporary classrooms until the St James vicar, Christine Spurway, offered up her church hall in Lower Road last week.

"It is open from 9.15am to 12.15pm four days a week with the children's teachers from Harris," she said.

"We realised some church members' children were not getting their education.

"We have up to 30 children. It is hoped the school will reopen after Easter but no one is sure. Until then, this offers the children some continuity."
