RAIL accident investigators have filed a lengthy report recommending changes to Croydon Tramlink after a vehicle left a station with its doors open. A tram left both Lebanon Road and Sandilands stops with all of its left-hand doors open on Saturday April 13 last year. The Rail Accident Investigation Branch concluded in its report that although there were no casualties, the incident could have resulted in serious injuries. The accident happened because of a fault override switch had inadvertently been operated by a driver while trying to resolve a switch. The recommendations include avoiding drivers communicating by mobile phone, extra training for staff on how to handles faults and an assessment of the controls in the driving cabs.
