A 20-YEAR-OLD man has been jailed for just four years after killing an autistic man with a single punch outside a convenience store in Bournemouth. Lewis Gill, 20, punched Andrew Young, 40, in the face outside a Tesco Metro store in the Charminster area of the town in broad daylight on November 6 last year. Mr Young, who had Asperger's Syndrome, was taken to University Hospital Southampton, where he died. Gill, from Sutton, was arrested in Croydon the weekend after the attack and charged with killing Mr Young. He pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was jailed at Winchester Crown Court last Friday. Police have released a chilling video which shows Mr Young being attacked. Mr Young is seen speaking to a man on a bike outside the store at 3.25pm. Gill appears in the bottom of the screen and, as the group leaves, he turns back to Mr Young and punches him in the face, throwing his full weight behind the hit. Mr Young falls back, hits his head against the tarmac and lies prone on the road as Gill walks away. Detective Inspector Marcus Hester, of Dorset Police's Major Crime Team, said: "This was a violent attack on an innocent man which had a tragic outcome. "This case shows that violence does not resolve anything and can have far reaching consequences not imagined at the time. "The court has issued a sentence deemed appropriate and in accordance with the evidence put to them. "Criminal behaviour such as this will not be tolerated and we are committed to bringing offenders to justice." Mr Young was a former Bournemouth School pupil who spoke a number of languages, including Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian. The former Asda worker and churchgoer was once a member of the naval section of the Combined Cadet Force. His mother, Pamela, said her son was "loving and clever" and described Gill's sentence as a "joke". After receiving complaints from a number of people, the Attorney General's Office said they would review the decision. As well as being jailed for four years for manslaughter Gill Gill was also sentenced to two consecutive three-month terms for killing Mr Young while on a suspended sentence for the robbery and handling offences.
