THE south of Croydon continues to be on high alert, as high water levels on the Caterham Bourne threaten to flood Kenley and Purley, in particular. Croydon Council has taken an unprecedented step, by pumping water into the Purley Cross underpass to keep it away from homes and businesses. The Red Cross is on standby to help residents who fear being forced from their homes, sandbags are out in force and the usually busy A22 Godstone Road remains closed, because of the high water levels. The council says it has written to around 1,500 residents, warning them of the potential dangers. These pictures, taken on Sunday morning by Advertiser photographer Ian Stratton, capture the state of alert in Kenley and Purley. If you've taken any photos of the flooding, please send them to newsdesk@croydonadvertiser.co.uk or Tweet them to @croydon_ad
