A ROUND-UP of the action from Croydon Netball League this weekend.
Premier Division: Chequers A vs Lifeline A Undeterred by their narrow defeat to top of the league Coombe last week, Chequers took to the court feeling positive and focused. Hard work in training paid off at both ends of the court, with passes flowing well in attack, and defenders putting strong pressure on throughout the first quarter. Pip Rata and Leanne Watson-Charles dominated under the post, in spite of blinding sunlight making it difficult to score. The first quarter ended 16-8 in Chequers favour. The second quarter saw the return of Clare Hargreave, who came on at C for Chequers and made life difficult for Lifeline's defenders with some well placed long balls into the shooting circle. At half time the score was 27-17. Kia Wnuk took the court for Chequers at WD in the third quarter, making a welcome comeback after some maternity leave. Chequers turned up the pressure to increase their lead, ending the quarter 41-29 up. Lifeline dominated the last quarter, taking advantage of unforced errors by the Chequers team and maintaining their shooting accuracy. The sun brightened everyone's moods though and the game was played in good spirits, with lots of laughter between the teams on court. The final score was 48-41 to Chequers, with Pip Rata as umpires' player and Lucy Johnston as players' player.
