A BUMPER new film season is being offered by the David Lean Cinema campaign next month.

The campaign will present six films in July – the highest number it has screened in a single month.

There will be five films on Mondays at The Spread Eagle pub, in Katharine Street, starting with Hitchcock, in which Anthony Hopkins portrays the director during the making of Psycho.

The season also features Broken, which was named best film at the 2012 British Independent Film Awards, and Pitch Perfect – about an all-girl college singing group.

The sixth film is a screening of Terence Malick's To the Wonder as part of the South Norwood Arts Festival, at the Harris Academy in South Norwood Hill, on July 10.

The campaigners are fighting for the reopening of the David Lean Cinema, at the Clocktower complex, which closed in April 2011 due to council spending cuts.

The full July Spread Eagle programme is: July 1: Hitchcock; July 8: Premium Rush; July 15: The Sessions; July 22: Broken and July 29: Pitch Perfect.

All are screened at 2.30pm and 8pm.
