A MAN who has built a set of five-star stables without permission on the edge of the Kenley Aerodrome has provoked the ire of the area's residents who wish to see the building demolished.
Brian Fernandes bought a house on Hayes Lane several years ago and decided to build a set of stables in the next-door field so that he could move there with his wife and allow their children to keep horses.
However, he did so without planning permission and the council claims he was asked on numerous occasions to apply for retrospective permission.
The authority has now issued a demolition order on the stables, forcing Mr Fernandes to apply to the Planning Inspectorate in Bristol in a bid to keep the construction.
Chris Stanley, the chair of the Kenley and District Residents' Association (KENDRA), expressed concern that the building, on green belt land, could eventually be turned into a residential block. He said: "We are not against development but it has to go through the correct process."
