HOUSING association Viridian came to the rescue of many Croydon residents last week threatened by the "bedroom tax" with a house swap event and an advice session.
The event gave households living in over or under-occupied properties advice on how they can avoid the bedroom tax and find more suitable accommodation.
Residents who attended the event were able to register their homes with HomeSwapper – an online service which makes it easier for residents to find suitable properties by matching their requirements with other residents on its database.
However, the database is not limited to Croydon and tenants were told they might have to consider moving elsewhere in the country, depending on where the available properties were.
