THE Croydon-born writer who helped create television hits such as The Avengers and The Professionals has died.
Brian Clemens, 83, who passed away at the weekend, was a scriptwriter and producer who also wrote episodes of Diagnosis Murder, The Persuaders and The Protectors.
His first real hit was with The Avengers, starring Dame Diana Rigg and Patrick Macnee, which he wrote the script for the pilot and served as its main scriptwriter.
He went on to create The Professionals, which ran from 1977 to 1983 and starred Judge John Deed actor Martin Shaw and Lewis Collins.
He was awarded an OBE in 2010 and is survived by his two sons Samuel and George.
