TWO Fieldway police officers have been spreading a bit of Christmas cheer among the elderly in recent weeks.
Ward officers PC Ricky Phillips and PC Jamie Hawes have organised the renovation of the communal room at Beech House, a sheltered housing block for the retired.
The two officers wrote to local businesses and had paint donated at Crown, a 46" LCD TV donated by Richer Sounds and Argos donated £250 worth of vouchers with which PC Phillips used to purchase canvas pictures, shelving units, lamps and other items.
Croydon Council are also due to fit and supply new curtains and blinds while AXIS painted the walls and ceilings free of charge.
The two officers then spent a day fitting the new units, pictures and television.
PC Phillips said: "The room was dated, bland & drab and very typical to that of a rundown elderly residential home room.
"Overall the change in the room is fantastic. From a small idea and some letters sent out we got a very good response and were able to complete a well needed makeover to the room."
