CROYDON Health Services says Dr Asif Qasim has no case to answer over allegations of bullying. Here is what the tribunal revealed:
- Dr Qasim and another consultant cardiologist physically restrained Dr Kevin Beatt while he was going about his duties.
- Royal College of Physicians said in 2009 that the cardiology department had become "dysfunctional" following Dr Qasim's arrival and that "bullying" was affecting patient care.
- Dr Qasim accused of "undermining" staff; making "false" and "exaggerated" reports when criticising them to management.
- He demonstrated "bullying" and "controlling" behaviour according to colleague.
- Nurse Rebecca Sandow Ali was "fearful" of Dr Qasim. She refused to assist him with his procedures and left in tears.
- Sister Lucy Jones also refused to work with Dr Qasim because she had taken out a grievance against him because of his conduct.
- He would shout at and talk down to staff in front of their peers.
- Dr Qasim's claim that he got on well with the vast majority of his team "not supported by the evidence". Relationships "could not be described as cordial."
- Dr Soo, Dr Beatt, Dr Ramasami, Sister Jones, Nurse Sandow Ali and others gave expressed concern about their relationship with Dr Qasim. Their evidence was "consistent".
- Following a meeting in June 2010, Dr Beatt informed managers he had been subjected to a "tirade of abuse" from Dr Qasim which was "by far the worst example of unacceptable behaviour by a consultant I had witnessed".
- Dr Qasim made an "entirely false and uncorroborated" allegation about Dr Beatt "acting crazy" following the death of patient Gerald Storey in June 2011.
- Later changed his evidence to claim another doctor had said Dr Beatt was "prowling like a madman". No evidence of this.
- Dr Qasim had input into the investigation of Mr Storey's death when he should not have.
- He then pressured another doctor to change his statement on what had happened to focus more on Dr Beatt.
- Despite numerous complaints about Dr Qasim's behaviour, nothing in report indicated the trust took serious action.
