A NEW board is to be set up by the council to oversee its promise to bring growth to Croydon. The Croydon Promise Delivery Board will focus on the pledges made in the council's Croydon Promise, including extensive home-building, strengthening links with Gatwick and establishing more links with universities. The board, which will meet four times a year, is to be made up of representatives from the private and public sector, education and Jobcentre Plus. Promises for growth made in the recently-published Croydon Promise include building 9,500 homes and creating 16,000 jobs over the next five years. It also aims to enable 2,000 start-up businesses a year and making Croydon a premier office location - following the council's announcement today it intends to halt the conversion of office blocks into flats. The board's chair, Councillor Alison Butler, cabinet member for homes and regeneration, said: "We're on the cusp of massive regeneration in Croydon. "Through the Croydon Promise, we've already outlined what we must do, in terms of building houses, creating jobs, supporting businesses, and enhancing our educational offer. "The Croydon Promise Delivery Board will play a key role in ensuring that these are delivered, and that the council along with our partners make the most of the opportunities presented by the borough's regeneration." There is also a proposal to set up a Croydon Business Leaders Forum to work with the borough's businesses and to be chaired by a high profile business advocate.
