A REWARD has been offered for information about "malicious damage" to cables which has left homes and businesses in Croydon without telephone and broadband service.
Crimestoppers and Openreach, BT's infrastructure division, have appealed for information after four large underground cables at Church Road, near the flyover, were cut at 5.20pm last Wednesday (September 24).
The owner of one business in Beddington Lane contacted the Advertiser this morning to say their service was still out.
A spokesman for BT said engineers are "working around the clock" to replace the 140 metre cables and restore service "as soon as possible".
Bernie Auguste, head of Openreach security said: "This malicious damage to our network has resulted in communities and businesses in the surrounding area to be without telephone and broadband services, causing disruption to thousands of people.
"This incident occurred at a busy time of day and we are calling on anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in and around the Church Road area to contact Crimestoppers."
Regan Hook, London Campaigns Manager for Crimestoppers, said: "It's incredibly frustrating when you lose your communication services due to foolish crimes such as this.
"Stand up for your community and tell us who is responsible for this crime so it doesn't happen again and those responsible receive the punishment they warrant."
Crimestoppers is offering a reward of up to £1,000 for information which leads to arrests and subsequent successful convictions. People can call the charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
