IN the build-up to the clash on Sunday, we spoke to Toffees fan Chris McKernan, who believes it will be a different outcome this time compared to in April at Goodison Park...
What have you made of your start to the season?
In a word – uncharacteristic. We pride ourselves on our defence and to ship ten goals in three games is very unlike us. We have also conceded a lot of goals at the end of games throwing away wins against Leicester and Arsenal. West Brom brought our first clean sheet and first win, so hopefully we have turned the corner.
What is the target for Everton this year?
You could ask five Evertonians and get five different answers. A trophy for the first time in 20 years would be nice. Top four would be great but I fear we'll be asking just too much. Personally I like the look of the Europa League, if we can get a run in that it will give us much needed experience for further European adventures. We know the winner of that will be in the Champions League next year – could you ask for a bigger incentive?
Which player(s) should Palace look out for on Sunday?
Romelu Lukaku got his first goal of the season on Saturday so he could be dangerous. Steven Naismith has been untouchable so far this season and looks a changed player from the timid Scot that we used to see.
It was a stunning game at Goodison Park in April, wasn't it?
No. It was horrible. That was the game that all but confirmed we weren't making the top four. Palace were really good that night to be fair and shocked me. They thoroughly deserved to beat us but the game was re-arranged and I can't help but feel we would have won in February!
Do you feel it could be a different outcome this time?
Yes, and it's no disrespect to be saying I feel we need to be beating the likes of Palace at home. Last year we took one point off them and we fell just short. Although Palace are not one of the teams you pick for an automatic three points, we will have to work for it.
And finally, what's your score prediction?
I'm going to go 3-1 to Everton. We have scored more than one in every game this season so I am confident of us scoring. I'm still not convinced on our defence and I think Palace will cause more problems than West Brom did.
