A woman has died after being hit by an out of control car
in Purley.
Police were called just after 4am this morning to reports of a car that had left the road and collided with two pedestrians in Godstone Road, near the junction with St James Road, Purley.
Officers and LAS attended the scene and discovered a woman, one of the pedestrians who is believed aged 40, suffering injuries - she was pronounced dead at the scene just before 5am.
The second pedestrian, a man, suffered a shoulder injury - he has been taken to a south London hospital for treatment.
The car, a red Citreon Saxo, was travelling in the direction of Purley prior to the collision.
The three occupants of the car, two males and one female, have all been taken to a south London hospital for treatment. None of their injuries are believed serious.
The driver of the car, a man aged 25, has also been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
Officers from the Road Death Investigation Unit will investigate.
Road closures remain in place on Godstone Road between Downs Court Road and the Whyteleafe Hill roundabout.
