THE crucifixion of Jesus is due to be acted out in the town centre on Friday, in front of an expected 800 or more spectators.
Professional actor Juan Lopez will be playing Jesus on a stage in front of the Almshouses in North End, at the end of the ecumenical Good Friday walk to witness processions.
This year three processions will converge on the town centre, each with their own actor playing Jesus.
Mr Lopez will be part of the procession leaving at 10.30am from St Michael's church in West Croydon, lead by the Right Reverend Paul Hendricks, Catholic bishop of the South West area, Archdiocese of Southwark.
The second procession will leave from the East Croydon United Reformed Church in Addiscombe Grove, and the third from Haling Park, South Croydon, both also at 10.30am.
About 32 churches from a wide range of denominations will be taking part in the annual processions and re-enactment, organised by Churches Together in Croydon.
Organiser Toni Suffolk said: "The crucifixion is at the heart of the Christain faith."
Choirs from St Mildred's Church and Croydon Minster will also be performing.
