Communities across South London are being asked to provide 30 volunteers to be the faces of the Rugby World Cup which comes to the capital in 2015. The World Cup Organizing Committee needs six thousand people to be the face of RWC 2015 in the same way that the Olympics Gamesmakers became the public faces of London 2012. Two London organisations - the Community Action Zone Trust and its Sport for Social Change Network. have been given 30 places in what is being called 'The Pack'. Volunteers will play a key role in the delivery of the six-week tournament with a range of roles including transport, meet and greet, accreditation and way-finding, which will all vary in duration. Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: "The 2015 Rugby World Cup is yet another top flight sporting spectacular heading to the capital. "In the same way volunteering played a huge role in the success of London's 2012 Games, I've no doubt that volunteers in 'The Pack' will be helping to roll out the red carpet next year for players, staff and spectators alike. "I urge Londoners, including those who may be from non-traditional rugby areas, to grasp this great opportunity to get involved." The Community Action Zone Trust is a social enterprise focusing on sport and community development based in the North Lambeth and Southwark working from a former school which is now a community facility – the Black Prince Community Hub. The Sport for Social Change Network is a worldwide network focusing on sport for development . In London it is currently operating in four South London Boroughs – Lambeth,Southwark,Croydon and Sutton. Croydon Volunteer Action Will also be heavily involved in promoting the volunteering opportunities The Networks at borough level have currently over 70 organizations associated with them –mostly community and sporting groups – although increasing community based organizations with an interest in sport and physical activity Rob Hardy Head of Operations at CAZ/SSCN said: "We are very grateful to the RFU for providing these valuable volunteering opportunities to our networks for RWC2015. "It will offer our volunteers, previously with little or no exposure to Rugby, a once-in-a lifetime chance to be involved in a wonderful and exciting event which they can be part of and feel proud to have made a contribution that will also benefit their career development." Applications for positions close on Thursday, April 17 and will be followed by 'Try Outs from June to December with successful members of The Pack confirmed in early 2015.
