Chung Yong Schools of Taekwondo have agreed a new sponsorship deal from Living Landscapes. The money, believed to be around £1000, will be used to buy new protective equipment for students to practise their fighting techniques in a safe environment. "It will be a fantastic boost to the club and development of the students," Says 4th Dan and instructor Master Dean Gibbs. "It means a lot to us that people believe in the club and what we are doing." Tecwyn Evans, Director of Living Landscapes adds "Dean has made a big impact on our eldest and middle sons, who are 9 and 7. Both of them have enjoyed the classes as a means to let off steam and keep fit. But our 9 year old in particular has developed a great deal physically and mentally since joining the club. They are not alone: all the kids in the club love it and find it hugely rewarding." The funding comes in the same week that Chung Yong adult members have found success at National level. Jay Patel has won a number of National Competitions in the past, but always had his sights on being British Student Champion. In his last year at the University of Southampton he achieved just that at the British Student Taekwondo Federation Finals. Stephanie Gooch, representing the University of Surrey, narrowly missed out on Gold, bringing home a Silver. Elsewhere, Tesi Riese, in her first competition, won Gold for her patterns routine at the National Poomsae Championships in Crawley. Taekwondo is a lively and energetic martial art that boasts some of the most dynamic and effective kicking techniques of all. With both a traditional and Olympic competition side, Taekwondo really does offer something for everyone. Chung Yong, which means Blue Dragon in Korean, has been teaching students in Croydon since 1982. There are 6 classes a week for all ages and abilities. "There is so much to learn in Taekwondo," says Master Gibbs. "It can improve your strength, fitness and flexibility as well as teach you self defence and build confidence." Established in 1996, Living Landscapes have won professional awards for their expert garden landscaping services. Mr Evans says "I wholeheartedly support Dean's approach to fitnesss and am happy to provide some help to him and the club, now and in the future." To celebrate the deal Chung Yong is offering a free lesson to all new members. If you or your child would like to try Taekwondo, please get in touch and visit on a training night.
