SATURDAY marked the first Breast Cancer fundraiser for the Croydon Netball League, the second one being on March 22.
The charity is particularly favoured by the girls who play in the league.
For the matches played this month, the league asks players to wear something pink and donate to the Royal Marsden Rapid Diagnostic Unit at Sutton.
Cakes will be sold again, and there will be a new and nearly new stall in the attempt to beat last year's total.
Crickets 33
Chequers 17
In Division Two, the sun was shining for Chequers D's match against Crickets.
The first quarter was even with the teams frequently turning the ball over in the circle and struggling to score points.
In the second quarter, Chequers produced some lovely passes by Debbie Jenkins into the circle and improved passing.
However, Crickets' defence were quick to snatch in any loose balls; by half-time Chequers were trailing.
Crickets attacked energetically in the third quarter and Chequers felt the burn.
A committed final push in the last quarter was insufficient to level the scores, but did include great interceptions and determined play.
Mandy Mcglade produced great defence in the circle and Debbie Jenkins consistently attacked, both being voted players' player.
Most sporting player Kate Phillips, on her debut for Chequers D, found free space and provided support around the circle.
Ace 32
Chequers E 35
IN DIVISION Five, Chequers E faced Ace with a squad of nine players.
Play was even at first, but feeding from Ace's wing attack meant they finished the first quarter two goals ahead.
The second quarter saw an ankle injury for the Ace GA, but great centre-court play from Sophie Sherley-Dale and accurate shooting from Katy Deloughery and Alice Ashley Smith still kept Ace in touch.
However, another injury for the Ace centre then saw them down to six players.
Chequers E took advantage and won the last quarter and the match.
In Division One, United NC played great netball against Allstars, but the advantage of height saw Allstars take the win by 56-36. Most sporting players: Jodie Stagg United, WA, Dawn Bernard, All Stars, GD.
