NEW details have emerged about a scam which saw conmen trick a flood victim out of £17,000.
Police are searching for two men who fleeced a householder in Purley by pretending to be trading standards officers from Croydon Council.
They visited the man's house on February 20 and convinced him he had to pay for repairs needed following recent flooding.
Police now say the victim, in his mid-60s, allowed the bogus officials to accompany him to the bank where he paid £17,000 into an account which they claimed was for costs of drainage works.
Croydon CID is investigating. No arrests have made at this stage.
Anyone with information should contact Detective Constable Matt Lee at Croydon CID on 020 3276 2264.
