THREE in four women say it is "extremely likely" they would recommend giving birth at Croydon University Hospital to a family or friend, a survey by NHS England has found.
The trust's maternity unit scored 75 out of 100 in the Friends and Family Test (FFT), above both the national and London average.
It comes as a welcome fillip for the hospital after maternity services were rated as among the worst in the country in a Care Quality Commission (CQC) survey, published in December.
That opinion poll was completed before a £629,000 refurbishment of the wards as well as the recruitment of more midwives, including consultant Gina Brockwell.
The new-look unit was then praised following an inspection of the hospital as a whole in September.
The FFT results, released by NHS England last week, have provided further evidence of improvements at the hospital in London Road.
Mums were asked for their views on giving birth at the hospital and some 49 of the 57 (85 per cent) who answered the questionnaire said they would be "extremely likely" to recommend it to others.
Ann Morling, the trust's director of midwifery, said: "These results demonstrate the real improvements that the trust has made and our commitment to delivering consistent, high quality, compassionate care to all of the mums who use our services.
"I am truly thrilled that they have given us such positive feedback about their time with us."
A CQC inspection in September concluded that improving patient experience should be a priority for the trust.
Zoe Packman, director of nursing and midwifery, said: "We know that patient experience is very important to the people that use our services and I am very proud of what the midwifery team has achieved over recent months.
"We will not be complacent, we know that there are still more improvements that we need to make but I am pleased mums are noticing the changes."
