TUBE STRIKE: Good service on the Overground but Croydon commuters heading into London face misery

CROYDON commuters heading into London this morning can expect chaos, thanks to the start of a 48-hour strike by tube workers. Services on most lines are subject to severe delays, while some stations haven't even opened - leading to angry scenes across the capital. However, the service is at least described as 'good' by TfL on the Northern line, and also the Overground, which runs from West Croydon and through Norwood Junction and Crystal Palace. Tramlink staff are not taking part in the strike, though TfL says services are running well but "much busier" due to the strike. The RMT and TSSA unions started the 48-hour walkout at 9m on Tuesday. The unions want TfL to suspend plans to close all ticket offices and cut 950 jobs. TfL, for its part, claims the measures are needed to help save £50m a year.
