POLICE have appealed directly to the Polish community to help them piece together the life of a man whose body was found hidden in a well in Warlingham. Damian Chlywka, 32, was found by labourers clearing weeds in the garden of 11a Audley Drive on November 15. Forensic examination of his body revealed he had been severely beaten and had many broken bones. He had then been wrapped and bound in a plastic sheet before being hid in the well. Police believe the Polish national had been left undiscovered for around two years and are now trying to form a picture of his life before the killing. They know he came to the UK in 2008 from Glogow in south west Poland. An Oyster card found in his clothing had last been used on March 17 - corresponding with his last known sighting. He had many jobs in the UK, mainly in the construction industry, but he also worked in car washes and showrooms, in the Croydon and Surrey area. At one point he lived in 11a Audley Drive with a group of fellow workers and later lived in Hounslow and Croydon. He was last seen on April 17 and around this time he was living in a property in Thornton Heath. He left the address saying he was going to do some decorating work for a friend and was not seen again. Detective Inspector Mick Norman, of the serious and major homicide command, said: "Our focus now is to build up a fuller picture of Damian's life in the UK. "We have given the difficult and heartbreaking news to his family in Poland who he lost contact with in 2010 and understandably they are distraught. "We need to know the exact places Damian worked, who he worked with and who he socialised with. "We need to hear from people who met him along the years, who may have drank with him, or lived with him. "I would also appeal directly to members of the Polish community in and around south London and Surrey to contact the police with any information they may have. "I would like to take this opportunity to reassure them that they will be treated with the utmost sensitivity." Nine people arrested during the investigation have been released without further action. One man, arrested on December 10, is due to return on police bail on February 24.
