A THEATRE group based in South Norwood have had to delay their return to Stanley Halls. St Mark's Players will perform their pantomime at the Beckenham Public Hall, as they did in 2013. They had hoped to bring their production of Snow White back to their home theatre of 50 years but were concerned the refurbishment of the venue would not be done in time. Chairman and musical director, Chris Smith-Gillard, said: "Initially we were going back to The Stanley Halls, but sadly refurbishment and the reinstallation of the technical gear, like light and lighting desk, sound and sound desk, follow spots, repairs to the main curtains and so on has taken much longer than originally envisaged, including the signing over of the Stanley to the community. "However, it's quite a feat which the Stanley Peoples' Initiative have taken on. They are doing the most fantastic job and I have every confidence that their finished product will be once again the jewel in the crown of Croydon. "We, at St. Mark's Players, wish them (the SPI) all the luck and encouragement which they deserve to open the halls for all to use. "Meanwhile, we shall perform our own magic in Beckenham Public Hall where we have had to put on an extra performance as tickets are selling fast and the second matinee performance is already sold out." The family show tells the traditional fairy tale with some modern twists and has music from Disney right through to rock classics. As always, St. Mark's is supporting local charities – Croydon Carers and St Christopher's Hospice. Performances: Saturday 25 January 2014 @ 2.30pm & 7.30pm Sunday 26 January @ 3pm – SOLD OUT Friday 31 January @ 7.30pm Saturday 1 February @ 2.30pm & 7.30pm Sunday 2 February @ 3pm At Beckenham Public Hall, 4 Bromley Road, Beckenham BR3 5JE Tickets, costing £9 for adults and £7.50 for children as well as group discounts, are available via 07551 812341 or www.boxofficediva.com (there is no booking fee).
