ONE of Croydon's top manufacturing companies received a royal visit.
SLE, which makes life-saving neonatal ventilators for premature babies, welcomed the Duke of Kent, who is the Queen's cousin, to its headquarters in Selsdon Road, South Croydon.
The Duke was accompanied by Col Ian McRobbie, the Deputy Lieutenant for Croydon, and Councillor Yvette Hopley, the Mayor.
The Duke met senior managers responsible for the distribution of SLE's products to more than 90 countries.
He also had the chance to see a demonstration of the SLE5000, the company's latest touch-screen ventilator.
At the end of the tour the Duke unveiled a plaque marking his visit.
Bernard Nelligan, SLE's managing director, said: "It was with pride we were able to explain and demonstrate to the Duke how close partnerships forged with our customers, underpinned by continual investment, has resulted in substantial expansion for SLE."
SLE has been based in Croydon for more than 50 years.
The company was named as the borough's best overall business in the 2012 Croydon business awards and best medium-sized business in this year's awards.
